One becomes a predator

One becomes a protector

Front Porch Friday

porch swingWELCOME everyone to a new portion of my blog entitled “Front Porch Friday”.  Each Friday (OK, “each” may be an exaggeration…) MANY Friday’s I will be taking time to interview an author, RP writer, book character or anyone else I can think of as a way to bring new life to many of our favorites.

Do you have authors, book characters, RP writers that you’d like to know more about?  COMMENT on this blog with your ideas and I’ll do my best to get them up!

I’m VERY excited to start out this new venture with none other than Gideon Cross *squeals and claps* More specifically, @_Gideon_Cross on Twitter who was gracious enough to answer some questions for me…and very recently surpassed 2,000 followers!!  I hope you enjoy getting to know Ace a little better…I know I did!

What drew you to RP Gideon Cross?
After reading the Crossfire series, I found Gideon’s charisma and strength of character to be unforgettable and I wanted to bring him to life.  Something about his determination to go after whatever he wants, and succeed, resonated with me…and his passion above all else in general, and for Eva, is rare.  Given his traumatic past, he rises above it {smirks}

How any times have you read the Crossfire trilogy?
Would it be out of the ordinary to say more than once {flashing a grin}

Is your writer similar to Gideon in any way?
I think Gideon’s ability to conquer his demons and come out on top…Always playing to win…Striving to be his best…and going after the woman he would move the earth for, are all things I can definitely say are similar.  A special woman is something you should never let through your grasp.

What are some of your favorite moments in the Crossfire books?
I would definitely have to say seeing and meeting Eva for that first time at The Crossfire.  She was like no other I’d ever seen.  My whole world turned and I just knew she was mine.  That first limo ride, and undoubtedly…that red dress, are forever burned into my memory.  Our trip to the Outer Banks, and that unforgettable kiss, having Eva all to myself is also a cherished and very special time.  Our delicious encounter at the club…well you’ve read that {smirks}

What do you feel sets you apart from other RP accounts, Gideon or otherwise?GC
I don’t believe any of us is set apart so much. More that we put our own ‘stamp’ on our character if you will.  I try to bring Gideon to life the best way I can and I’m thrilled my angels enjoy it so much.  I hope that I can do him justice {smiles}

Would you consider RPing as a couple with an Eva?  Why or why not
That’s a difficult question.  *I know, that’s why I asked it!* There are so many wonderful Eva’s out there…it would be impossible to choose just one.

Describe the perfect date
The perfect date? A candle lit dinner, wine, great food and company.  Then hitting the dance floor for some slow (and fast) sexy body to body swaying and grinding {winks} *Interviewer dissolves into a puddle*

Do you write outside of Twitter?
Yes, I do write a little outside of Twitter, I enjoy it and I hope that what I post here, my angels enjoy as well.

What would you like to say to your followers?
That’s an excellent question *thanks, ace* I’d love to say what a journey it’s been so far.  Thank you all very much for your continued and wonderful support and love.  I adore every one of you.  I hope I make you smile as much as you all make me smile.  I hope to be online more often, as I always enjoy interacting with all of my beautiful angels.  Thank you so much to my new followers as well…welcome to my world {flashing a wicked grin}.

THIS OR THAT —

Chocolate or Vanilla – chocolate AND vanilla? {winks}

Coffee or Tea – Coffee

Summer or Winter – summer *good answer*

Pasta or Pizza – pasta

Steak or Fish – fish

Apple or Android – apple

Mac or PC – Mac

East Coast or West Coast – East Coast

Night Owl or Early Bird – Night Owl {winks}

UPDATE – When Gideon hit 2K followers, I asked him if there was anything else he wanted to add…of course he did! That’s why we love him! Here’s his reply:

“I would just say how humbling it is to know how many angels enjoy what I do…and I can’t thank you all enough to finally be at 2K {kisses}”

The 50 Flare Up

I could start this post with “Many of you have asked about my feelings on the latest E L James Twitter conversation and the backlash surrounding it” But, in all honesty, no one has asked me about it.  However, as a reader, writer and fan of 50, I feel the need to comment on it.

Those of you not familiar with the latest – let me give you a little background.  The author of 50 Shades of Grey, E L James hosted a Twitter chat where readers could ask any question they’d like and she would do her best to answer.  The only “requirement” was tweeters use the hashtag #AskELJames so their question could be tracked.  The good news – the hashtag was trending…for quite some time.  The bad news – many of the questions were rude, hateful, and downright mean.

Here’s a sample:

  • I’m interested in who you’re planning to plagiarize next #AskELJames
  • My next door neighbor was stalking me. Did I miss an opportunity for love by blocking his number? #AskELJames
  • If my partner wants to visit her mom, should I hit her before she leaves or after I follow her? #AskELJames

The list goes ON and ON and ON and ON…just type Ask EL James Twitter into Google and you’ll find hundreds.  While some of you may have no clue what the hell those questions relate to, many of you do.  (BTW – if you think 50 was plagiarized, have you read Crossfire…or any other “erotic romance” on the market today?!)

Yes, it’s true.  Christian Grey is a dominant and, for some, is seen as a little bit of a psycho where Anastasia Steele is concerned.  BUT.  BUT, BUT, BUT…hasn’t every single romance novel known to man had some sort of a chase involved?  Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy and girl date, boy and girl fight, boy tries everything he can to get girl back…and many women swoon with wonder and ask “Why can’t I find a man who would do those things for me?”

Is 50 extreme? Sure…that’s the point.

Is 50 Shades of Grey for everyone?  No, absolutely not.

Is it a book about abuse?  In my opinion – NO, absolutely not. For some people, the answer to that question may be “YES!!”  But that’s the great thing about the book.  Everyone see’s it differently…and as we’ve all been taught – it’s not to say I’m bad and you’re good – JUST DIFFERENT.  We have a different perspective on what we’ve read.  And that’s OK!  Personally, I didn’t much care for the sex scenes, more for the underlying love story and watching two people battle their own demons for love.

What’s not OK is to attack someone and their work.  To hide behind your computer or smart phone and tell someone their writing sucks, that they should choose a new profession.  What if someone said that to you about your work?  What if someone emailed you and said “You’re horrible at your job.  Quit.  Find something new.”

What’s more –  many authors think of their books are as children.  They nurture them, care for them, build them…what if someone said to you “I don’t like your child.  Don’t have anymore.”  Extreme?  Yes.  But I know FOR A FACT that’s how some authors feel when their work is criticized.

Did EL James open herself up to criticism when she agreed to do a Twitter chat?  YES, absolutely.  Does that give people the right to say whatever they want to another human being?  NO.  If you didn’t like the next movie George Clooney appeared in, would you walk up to him on the street and say “You suck at being an actor.  You should quit.”??

Is 50 Shades the best written book on the market?  Heavens no.  It’s a work of FICTION, something for people to enjoy however they see fit.  For some, it made their marriage more interesting.  For others, it gave them something to whisper about over coffee.  Others saw their business boom.  Some absolutely hated every word and would never dream of reading anything similar.  Again, however YOU see the book is just fine…but don’t bully someone who sees it differently…or the person who created it simply because you didn’t like it.  Would you tell a waitress to quit their job if you didn’t like the food at a restaurant?  A book, just like food, is a matter of personal preference.

The bottom line regarding the #AskELJames issue is this – those who belittle, bash, bully and target others using social media (or any other kind of media) ARE abusers, and should be dealt with as such.  I think it’s high time people remember “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”

NEW RELEASE – Never Let You Go

I’m THRILLED to spread the word about this outstanding new novel from my girl Katy Regnery.  This contemporary romance is not for the faint of heart. At over 400 pages, this is a searingly emotional roller coaster that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and will quite certainly NEVER LET YOU GO…

Regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.

In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.

Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.

Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.

Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people—once profoundly broken—who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.

Fate ~ a review

When Adam and Evette both get out of relationships that just aren’t working anymore, they find themselves on a dating site. As fate would have it they’re also connected as ‘Rebound Buddies’ to help one another navigate the tricky waters of their return to dating (and to ensure they don’t fall too hard, too fast).

Luckily, they live on opposite sides of the country as they quickly realize they’re perfect for one another. The two talk daily and lay down ground rules for their first dates as singles – no phone numbers, no second dates. Miraculously, both accomplish the task and move on to something Evette has always wanted to try but never had the guts to – a one night stand. Evette hopes her idea puts some distance between her and Adam as she finds herself falling for him. Adam agrees to this “assignment” as well, even though he feels himself falling hard for Evette.

Will the new “couple” survive their second assignment? Will either one confess their love? Can a long distance love work or will one uproot their lives and move across country?

This is not the first book by James I’ve read, I “met” her when I read the Charity series a few months back (which I also adored). When reading that series I was surprised more than once, and James doesn’t disappoint in Fate either. I tried to put the book down and go to sleep…I really did…but Adam & Evette kept whispering in my ear to keep reading. Needless to say, I was sitting straight up in bed at 1am as I finished – completely SHOCKED and wanting more. I even messaged James at 1am to ask if “The End” was indeed “The End”…

As far as characters go, I loved Evette – she was funny, witty, and didn’t take herself too seriously. Adam was sexy, caring and willing to do just about anything to find the right kind of love for his life. Together, the pair are dynamite – even when talking on the phone the emotion pours off the page.  My only complaint is that under 200 pages wasn’t enough for me…I NEED MORE of this couple!

If you do nothing else this week – put Fate on your list of books to read in 2015.

Fate ~ Adam & Evette by Maya James

Front CoverFate is a fast paced novella about two people from opposite ends of the country trying to support each other as friends while denying their instant attraction for one another.

Adam and Evette have both recently ended relationships that were never meant to last. Each of them is longing for something more intense and meaningful, and fate brings them together online in a support system for rebounding daters. The only problem—they’re perfect for each other but too far away to do anything about it.

B&N

AUTHOR BIO:

Indie Author of contemporary romance and suspense novels such as the Charity Series (Charity’s Warrior, Charity’s Secrets, and Charity’s Passion) **BLOGGER REVIEWED!!** and a novella titled Fate: Adam & Evette.

East coast born and raised, I’m married, extremely happily, with 4 kids, 3 of which are now young adults (not sure when that happened).

I’m a COO in my technology-based “day job,” which requires a mix of technical and creative writing for both internal and client-facing materials, but it was not satisfying my artistic spirit. Writing the “Charity” series has been absolutely fulfilling and exciting.

My favorite writing takes place on my phone while lying on the Southernmost Beach in Key West, where I try to go at least twice a year.
